NOSOTROS SOMOS EL ROTOLOSIMO

‘Nosotros Somos El Rotolismo/ We Are The Rotolismo’ , is a BFA Senior Project located in University of Connecticut in the Art Gallery Room on April 17, 2026 showing graphic design and painting. These 10 painting canvases were created with materials of Enamel Paint and Typography lettering. This BFA Senior project (2026) is a mixture of Art and what is known as vernacular graphic design that reflects on my heritage. It’s an activism towards preserving traditional hand paint signs with enamel paint in Mexico City neighborhoods especially in cuahtémoc borough.

These beautiful colorful hand paint typographic designs canvases were an act of calling and a way to show my inheritance and my love for protecting it from erasure. Rotolos are identity, culture, tradition to Mexican culture and have been for many years and many generations of rotolistas! It’s an honor to get inspired to something that has moved me in across many ways from researching to test trial and error with the brush techniques and paint. It was worth having to challenge myself into making something new from what rotolos are shown!

Being able to work around with painting and graphic design hand to hand really got me inspired and motivated as a latina designer and multi media artist. hope to continue to grow for future generations in my community. Its vibrant paint and expression is a continuous living tradition among rotolo artists and in the mexican culture.
